Estate rules
Visitors are welcome to enjoy the special charms and peace of Peninsula Square. The grounds are formal gardens with rules designed to maintain the character of the Square and to conform with the provisions of Section 106 of The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 governing the development of the residential estate. The rules also reflect the residents’ rights to privacy, prevailing health and safety considerations and maintenance provisions. The rules relating to visitors are:
General
- Peninsula Square is privately owned: it is not a public park nor a playground
- The grounds are managed by the Peninsula Square Management Company Limited (PSMC). All the maintenance and upkeep are paid for entirely by the residents
- We welcome organised tours arranged by the City Tourist Board
- Organised groups other than those arranged by PSMC or the City Tourist Board are prohibited; coach and wedding parties are expressly forbidden
- Children, whether resident or visiting, must be supervised at all times and are subject to all the rules of the Square
- Cycling other than for access by residents is only permitted on the designated bicycle paths. The use of scooters, skateboards and other comparable modes of transport or conveyance is not permitted
- It is unsafe to run or walk on the coping stones or the raised grass beds, or to leap over the box hedges. Walking is not permitted on the lavender beds
- Organised games, sports and athletic activities, and the use of frisbees, drones, kites, balls of any sort, whether kicked or thrown are not permitted
- The playing of music is not permitted
- Sunbathing is not permitted on the lawns
- Barbecues and fires of any sort are not permitted in the Square
- Filming, television recording and commercial photography, including wedding photography, are not permitted
- Dogs should be kept on leads at all times and are not permitted on the lawns
Water features
- The fountain pond and water channels (rills) are potentially dangerous especially to children
- It is not permitted to throw stones, gravel or any other objects into the pond or the rills; it leads to damage of the pumps
- We welcome the use of model boats on the fountain pond, but not in the rills
- It is not permitted to paddle or swim in the pond or rills
- Ducks and other water birds should not be fed. Contrary to popular belief bread is bad for ducks (and can be fatal to ducklings) and is even worse for our pumps. Ducklings usually become waterlogged and drown because they can’t get out of the water, so we do try to move them to the riverside when practicable
Vehicle access
- Vehicles are only permitted to drive onto the Square to gain access to dwellings. It is not a thoroughfare
- The speed limit on the Estate is 10mph
- Authorised vehicles may only park in designated spaces and must display a valid permit issued by PSMC
- Stopping other than in designated spaces is limited to loading and unloading by residents or their visitors
- Vehicles should not at any time mount the kerbs or pavements (paviours) as this can cause serious and costly damage.
